World Heavyweight Championship (professional wrestling)

The World Heavyweight Championship is the name given to certain championships in professional wrestling. Although various professional wrestling promotions have used the term "world heavyweight championship", it is almost exclusively used as a moniker for the championship that is under competition between the top contenders of major organizations. The territorial nature of early professional wrestling, in which promotions would each operate in different regional territories across the nation, suggested that few organizations could legitimately promote a World Heavyweight Championship, in the sense that the title could theoretically be defended against any challenger anywhere in the world. However, with the emergence of professional wrestling in mainstream and popular culture during the 1980s professional wrestling boom, many organizations grew to receive national and international exposure and thereby gained the platform to promote worldwide.

History
Most of the well-recognized World Heavyweight Championships today are derived from the first recognized version held by Georg Hackenschmidt in 1905 and Frank Gotch in 1908. Established in 1948, the NWA World Heavyweight Championship of the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) directly traces its lineage to these reigns, thus making it the oldest active world title. With many regional territories appearing across the United States, the NWA was formed in 1948 as a governing body in professional wrestling, operating as a talent and brand name franchiser for the territory system. Though promotions that were members of the NWA retained their ownership and recognition of its champions, they were to recognize the NWA World Heavyweight Championship as the premier title over their own. The American Wrestling Association (AWA) was formed in 1960 from NWA territories that began to secede from the NWA during the late 1950s. Unilaterally, the AWA established the AWA World Heavyweight Championship and awarded the recognition to NWA World Heavyweight Champion Pat O'Connor only to later rule that O'Connor had forfeited the title to the AWA's Verne Gagne. The title along with the AWA became inactive in 1990 and was officially decommissioned in 1991. The NWA World Heavyweight Championship has since served as the foundation from which other world titles have originated. Consequently, titles that spun-off from the NWA World Heavyweight Championship lineage, are connected to the historical reigns of Georg Hackenschmidt and Frank Gotch as well.

World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) is home to three such active world titles; the WWE Championship, World Heavyweight Championship, and ECW Championship. The WWE Championship was introduced in 1963 when Capitol Wrestling Corporation, the precursor to WWE, seceded from the NWA and became World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF). The WWWF World Heavyweight Championship was thus established as being produced from the NWA title when recognition was awarded to Buddy Rogers after he had lost the NWA World Heavyweight Championship to Lou Thesz. WWWF was renamed to World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in 1979 and the title became known as the WWF World Heavyweight Championship and later simply the WWF Championship. Similarly, the WCW World Heavyweight Championship of World Championship Wrestling (WCW) was introduced in 1991 and was established when the recognition was awarded to NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair, thus being produced from the NWA title. WCW seceded from the NWA in 1993 and became a rival promotion to the WWF, growing into mainstream prominence along with them and eventually being involved in a television ratings war. Meanwhile, due to WCW's secession from the NWA, WCW opted to recognize Ric Flair's NWA World Heavyweight Championship reign at the time of the secession as the WCW International World Heavyweight Championship, which was then used for a fictitious WCW subsidiary until it was decommissioned in 1994. Ultimately, WCW was bought-out by the WWF, and the WCW World Heavyweight Championship was unified with the WWF Championship in 2001. Chris Jericho become the final WCW Champion and the subsequent WWF Champion, defeating The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin respectively.

The WWF Championship became the Undisputed Championship in professional wrestling with no other prominent world title to dispute the claim until 2002. The WWF was renamed to WWE and its title became the WWE Undisputed Championship while WWE was divided into franchises or "brands" known as Raw and SmackDown, which act as complementing promotions under WWE. The WWE Undisputed Championship was then designated to a single brand, becoming simply the WWE Championship after the World Heavyweight Championship was created, spun-off from the WWE Undisputed Championship, and established while being designated to the other brand. The World Heavyweight Championship was thus indirectly produced from the NWA title. The ECW Championship, originally of Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), was first introduced in 1992 in Eastern Championship Wrestling, the precursor to ECW.[4] However, it was officially established in 1994 and produced from the NWA title when the promotion seceded from the NWA and became Extreme Championship Wrestling after Shane Douglas relinquished the NWA World Heavyweight Championship immediately after winning it and instead proclaimed himself the ECW World Heavyweight Champion. After ECW closed in 2001, its assets were subsequently purchased by WWE, and in 2006, the franchise was relaunched as a WWE brand complementary to Raw and SmackDown with the title being recommissioned and designated to the brand.

In Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), a promotion founded in 2002, NWA titles held a dominant role through an agreement, which allowed the NWA World Heavyweight Championship to be operated within the promotion after TNA's NWA affiliation had ended in 2004. The agreement was abruptly voided in 2007 and Christian Cage was stripped of the title by the NWA. TNA then introduced the TNA World Heavyweight Championship and awarded the recognition to Kurt Angle while also recognizing NWA reigns recorded in TNA. Also founded in 2002, Ring of Honor (ROH) is a promotion that grew from the independent circuit of professional wrestling to become one of the major organizations with the ROH World Championship being established.

Royal Rumble Result

Dodged Viper - Still WWE Champion Sheamus

ATLANTA - In the battle of Snake Eyes versus Irish Eyes, it’s clear whose peepers were smiling and whose were crimson with anger as WWE Champion Sheamus narrowly survived to retain his coveted title.

Leading up to the match, Randy Orton had taken tremendous pains to slither inside his opponent’s psyche, coiling himself tightly inside the Irishman’s head and waiting for the most opportune moment to strike. That moment, however, would prove to be his undoing.

As The Viper and his prey clashed inside the Philips Arena, Cody Rhodes attempted to distract The Celtic Warrior, defying his Legacy ringleader, who had demanded that there be no interference. Rhodes’ plan to help Orton backfired miserably, though, as The Viper was disqualified.

In the aftermath, an irate Orton berated and slapped around Rhodes. When Ted DiBiase rushed to the aid of his fellow Legacy henchman, Orton attacked him, too. The Viper’s blind rage then allowed Sheamus to surprise him and drop him with a massive boot.

While The Celtic Warrior may have escaped The Viper’s sting this time, there’s little doubt that the fangs are now out.

Under-World Title triumph - Still World Heavyweight Champion The Undertaker

ATLANTA – World Heavyweight Champion Undertaker reigned supreme over Rey Mysterio at the Royal Rumble, as the infamous dark forces of The Demon of Death Valley proved powerful enough to make the biggest heart in the WWE Universe rest in peace.

From the opening bell, the sold-out Philips Arena remained frozen on the edge of their seats, waiting in nearly-uncontrollable anticipation to see if The Ultimate Underdog could overcome the odds and conquer the legend of The Phenom. And from the beginning, Mysterio showed unending resilience in the face of The Undertaker’s merciless attack, firing back with a blitzkrieg of high-flying, fast-paced insanity as he tried to make the impossible possible. But, The Deadman was destined to send his opponent hurling from the top of the mountain. After withstanding two 619s in a row, The World Heavyweight Champion countered Mysterio’s follow-up with the devastating Last Ride for ultimate victory.

Mysterio became the No. 1 Contender to The Deadman’s World Title after caging The Animal Batista in a fierce Steel Cage Match showdown on SmackDown.

Despite his size, the unrivaled passion of the former World Champion continues to shine through every time he enters the ring. His valiant effort at the Rumble, against one of the great Superstars in squared circle history, serves as a tremendous victory in its own right.

However, since recapturing the World Title, the iconic Undertaker has been operating on his own plain of existence. And now that another challenger has fallen, The Phenom turns his ominous eyes toward WrestleMania XXVI.

But, who will venture into the shadows of darkness in search of his “holy grail,” tempting The Deadman’s undefeated winning streak of 17 - 0 on The Grandest Stage of Them All?

Christian slays Guyanese Goliath - Still ECW Champion Christian

ATLANTA – For weeks, No. 1 Contender Ezekiel Jackson has been tormenting ECW Champion Christian on ECW on Syfy. Big Zeke, and his ruthless associate, William Regal, have subjected Captain Charisma to brutal beatings and merciless losses. But Jackson’s reign of domination has finally ceased, as the ever-resilient Christian defeated his nemesis to retain the ECW Championship at Royal Rumble.

Christian has defended his ECW Title against many opponents, from ECW Original Tommy Dreamer, to “The All-American American” Jack Swagger, to Extreme newcomer Yoshi Tatsu. Arguably, none of these competitors in Christian’s past have been quite as physically and mentally daunting as Jackson.

Earlier this month, The Guyanese Goliath bulldozed through seven other Superstars to win the ECW Homecoming Finale’s Over-the-Top-Rope Challenge on ECW on Syfy. In the following weeks, win or lose, Jackson and Regal continued to torment Christian on the road to Royal Rumble. But when it mattered most, Christian again prevailed, using the heart, soul and intestinal fortitude he’s relied on throughout his ECW career.

Despite attempted interference by a ringside British Brawler, who was sent back to the locker room area by the WWE official during the match, Christian hit Big Zeke with a trusty Killswitch for the pinfall in the long-anticipated match. With his victory, Christian remains the longest reigning champion in WWE, holding the ECW Title since July. More importantly, he finally ended the reign of wicked domination by Jackson and Regal in the Land of the Extreme.

Royal Rumble 2010 winner - Edge

ATLANTA — At the 2010 Royal Rumble, 30 competitors entered the Philips Arena with the singular goal of earning the opportunity to challenge for a World Title at WrestleMania XXVI, but only one Superstar walked away with a golden ticket to The Grandest Stage of Them All.

That man’s name is Edge.

In a move that stunned the sold-out Atlanta crowd, The Rated-R Superstar made his shocking return to the ring, entering at No. 29 and going on to eliminate John Cena to win his first Rumble Match and receive the opportunity to main-event WrestleMania for a World Championship of his choosing on March 28, 2010 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Edge’s amazing return wasn’t the only surprising moment of this year’s Rumble, however. After CM Punk scored the first eliminations, Beth Phoenix became the second woman in WWE history to compete in the event. The Glamazon entered at No. 6 and eliminated the massive Great Khali after planting a kiss on the unsuspecting giant.

This lip-lock would be the only moment of levity in the contest. After being attacked by United States Champion The Miz before he even got in the ring, MVP was perhaps the most aggressive Rumbler of all. The Ballin’ Superstar got his retribution against the self-proclaimed “Awesome One” by attacking him with such rage that he ended up eliminating himself.

The epic bout turned even more dramatic when Unified Tag Team Champions D-Generation X proved that the Rumble truly was every man for himself. After Triple H hit Cena with a Pedigree, HBK nailed his unsuspecting friend with Sweet Chin Music, sending him to the arena floor.

Michaels would survive to be one of the final Superstars in the Rumble along with Cena, Chris Jericho, Batista and the surprise entrant, Edge. After The Rated-R Superstar dumped his former tag team partner, The Animal eliminated Michaels, crushing HBK’s dream of a rematch against Undertaker at WrestleMania.

With three former World Champions left in the ring, the intensity was palpable. Beaten and bruised, the warriors fought with everything they had until Cena tossed Batista to the outside.

Then, with the perfect opening in front of him, The Ultimate Opportunist eliminated Cena and earned his spot in the main event at WrestleMania.

The former nine-time World Champion will now walk a long road to Phoenix, Arizona. What will be there waiting for him remains to be seen. With less than two months to go before WrestleMania XXVI, anything can happen, but, for now, Edge is “The One.”

New Women's Champion - Mickie James

Fueled by the weeks of humiliation she endured on SmackDown, Mickie James scored ultimate retribution at the Royal Rumble. After capturing the Women’s Championship from Michelle McCool in swift fashion, the reinvigorated Diva gave Team Lay-Cool their just desserts. This make her total 5 times Women's Champion.

Elimination Chamber Match

WWE Championship Elimination Chamber Match

With The Road to WrestleMania XXVI officially begun following the Royal Rumble, six of Raw’s top Superstars now know which path they are on – and that is one with a hellish pit stop known as the Elimination Chamber.

On Raw, WWE Champion Sheamus saw John Cena, Triple H, Randy Orton, Ted DiBiase and Kofi Kingston all win qualifying matches for the opportunity to walk out of the Chamber holding The Celtic Warrior’s title.

Considering not only one of the prestigious titles in wrestling history will be on the line but also the opportunity to defend it on The Grandest Stage of Them All, the carnage already promised by the unforgiving structure will surely be multiplied.

Now that the stakes have risen, there’s no telling what any Superstar will do to win the championship. Last year, Edge proved that fact as he brutally attacked Kofi Kingston prior to the Chamber match and ultimately claimed victory becoming the World Heavyweight Champion.

Not that stepping into the Chamber isn’t dangerous enough, the incumbent champion has even more pressure on his shoulders with the odds being stacked against him as five other Superstars look to claim the top spot on Raw.

Whether it’s Sheamus or one of his five challengers who finds themselves as the last man standing at the inaugural pay-per-view bearing the brutal structure’s name, there’s one thing for sure, The Road to WrestleMania is going to be a beaten path. Find out who leaves as champion as WWE Elimination Chamber airs Sunday, Feb. 21 live on pay-per-view.

World Heavyweight Championship Elimination Chamber Match

At WWE Elimination Chamber, the World Heavyweight Championship will be up for grabs in one of two treacherous main event matches that share the inaugural pay-per-view’s name. But the six SmackDown Superstars involved will be fighting for more than glory, or even the title. They will be fighting to headline WrestleMania.

World Heavyweight Champion Undertaker will put his World Title on the line against CM Punk, John Morrison, Rey Mysterio, R-Truth, and Chris Jericho, each of whom won their qualification matches just five nights after the Royal Rumble.

The WWE Elimination Chamber is one of the most punishing structures ever conceived by man. Every square inch of the steel menace is a career-threatening accident waiting to happen.

Even a legend like The Demon of Death Valley steps into the vicious structure with the odds stacked against him, as any of his five opponents can capture his coveted “holy grail” without directly eliminating the ominous champion.

Four of the Superstars - The Phenom himself, Mysterio, Jericho and Punk - have ventured inside the dreaded nightmare before, leaving a small piece of themselves behind in the process. John Morrison and R-Truth have never competed in an Elimination Chamber Match before. However, with all that is at stake, experience may not be the difference between victory and defeat. In an atmosphere of pure terror and unpredictable mayhem, it may simply become a question of who wants it most.

And what they want is to be in the main event on The Grandest Stage of Them All, WrestleMania (Full WrestleMania coverage). With the exception of Edge, who surprised all by returning from injury to win the Royal Rumble (Full Royal Rumble coverage), this could be their last opportunity to head-up the squared circle’s biggest event of the year. But in order to walk into Arizona a World Champion, they must first walk out of the cold, black steel of the dreaded Chamber triumphant.

Will The Undertaker stand his ground or be overcome by one of his five dangerous challengers at WWE Elimination Chamber> Find out Sunday, Feb. 21, live on pay-per-view.

Intercontinental Champion Drew McIntyre vs. Kane

At WWE Elimination Chamber, Intercontinental Champion Drew McIntyre will go head-to-head with Kane in an explosive collision between two extremely volatile Superstars.

Just five days after the Royal Rumble both competitors battled in a Triple Threat Elimination Chamber Qualifying Match against John Morrison on SmackDown. Although neither of the Superstars walked away triumphant, McIntyre managed to hit the Double Underhook DDT, nearly achieving victory over The Big Red Monster. The following week, they engaged in a fierce battle that ended in a double count-out.

The “Chosen One” puts his title on the line with extreme confidence. His eagerness to bulldoze over anyone who stands in his way is accompanied by his ruthless nature and willingness to do whatever it takes to stay on top. Since personally being signed by WWE Chairman Mr. McMahon, he has remained undefeated in singles competition. The spotlight is shining on the Scottish Superstar and he plans to derail anyone’s ploy to take that away.

At 7-feet tall and more than 300 pounds, Kane has a substantial physical advantage over the 6-foot-5, 243-pound title holder. Perhaps the monstrous Superstar’s daunting presence, merciless maneuvers in the ring and non-stop sadistic drive will help the terrifying menace add to his already long list of accomplishments, a past that includes two reigns as the Intercontinental Champion.

Though it’s unclear which Superstar will prevail, one thing’s for sure. Both of these uncompromising Superstars are looking to walk into WrestleMania with the coveted title.

Will Drew McIntyre retain his Intercontinental Championship against his fearless contender at the inaugural Elimination Chamber pay-per-view? Or will he lose his illustrious title to The Big Red Monster? Find out Sunday, Feb. 21, live on pay-per-view.

The Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) World Heavyweight Championship was a professional wrestling world heavyweight championship in Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). It was the original world title of the Extreme Championship Wrestling promotion, later serving under WWE as the world title of the ECW brand and one of three in WWE, complementing the WWE Championship and World Heavyweight Championship. It was established under ECW in 1994 but was originally introduced in 1992 by the precursor to ECW, Eastern Championship Wrestling. ECW World Heavyweight Championship reigns were determined by professional wrestling matches, in which competitors are involved in scripted rivalries. These narratives create feuds between the various competitors, which cast them as villains and heroes.

Origin
The ECW World Heavyweight Championship was introduced originally in 1992 as the NWA-ECW Heavyweight Championship with Jimmy Snuka becoming the inaugural champion on April 25. However, its origin is attributed to events that began in the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), a promotion with various subsidiaries. In the early 1990s, Eastern Championship Wrestling (ECW) was a subsidiary to the NWA and by 1994, the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, the world title of the NWA and its subsidiaries, was vacant. Consequently, a tournament was organized to crown a new NWA World Heavyweight Champion and on August 27, ECW Heavyweight Champion, Shane Douglas, defeated 2 Cold Scorpio in the finals to win the title. However, Douglas immediately relinquished the NWA World Heavyweight Championship and instead proclaimed himself the new ECW World Heavyweight Champion.ECW subsequently seceded from the NWA and became Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW). The ECW World Heavyweight Championship was thus established as having spun-off from the NWA title. It remained active until April 11, 2001 when ECW closed and World Wrestling Entertainment subsequently purchased its assets.

Recommission
By 2005, WWE began reintroducing ECW through content from the ECW video library and a series books, which included the release of The Rise and Fall of ECW documentary. With heightened and rejuvenated interest in the ECW franchise, WWE organized ECW One Night Stand on June 12, a reunion event that featured ECW alumni.[4] Due to the financial and critical success of the production, WWE produced the second ECW One Night Stand on June 11, 2006, which served as the premiere event in the relaunch of the ECW franchise as a third WWE brand, complementary to Raw and SmackDown. On June 13, Paul Heyman, former ECW owner and newly appointed figurehead for the ECW brand, recommissioned the ECW World Heavyweight Championship to be the brand's world title and awarded it to Rob Van Dam as a result of winning the WWE Championship at One Night Stand 2006. Heyman had originally stated that either the WWE Championship or the World Heavyweight Championship would "become" the ECW World Heavyweight Championship if a competitor designated to the ECW brand became WWE Champion or World Heavyweight Champion at the event. However, Rob Van Dam later declared that he would hold both titles simultaneously instead. The title became known as the ECW World Championship in July 2006, and later simply as the ECW Championship in August 2007.

Brand designation
Following the events of the WWE Brand Extension, an annual WWE Draft was established, in which select members of the WWE Roster were reassigned to a different brand. After two years on the ECW brand, the ECW Championship was briefly moved to the SmackDown brand when Chavo Guerrero, a member of the SmackDown brand, defeated the ECW Champion CM Punk on January 22, 2008 to win the title. On March 30 at WrestleMania XXIV, the ECW Championship returned to ECW when Kane defeated Chavo Guerrero to win the ECW Championship and defected to the ECW brand. After the 2008 WWE Draft, Kane was drafted to Raw, moving the ECW Championship to the Raw brand. On June 29 at Night of Champions, Mark Henry defeated Kane and The Big Show in a Triple Threat match to win the ECW Championship. Henry's status as a member of the ECW brand resulted in the championship returning to ECW. The brand would continue to operate until February 16, 2010, rendering the title inactive once again.

Elimination Chamber Result

Intermittent reign - New WWE Champion Batista

ST. LOUIS – “All glory is fleeting.” – Anonymous

Few men have felt the sting of that axiom quite like John Cena. The Superstar had struggled against five resolute rivals – Sheamus, Triple H, Randy Orton, Ted DiBiase and Kofi Kingston – in one of the most unforgiving structures ever devised to capture his sixth WWE Championship. An exhausted Cena basked in his accomplishment as the WWE Universe reigned their approval upon him. Glory was his.

That glory, however, proved fleeting indeed. Mr. McMahon and his de facto enforcer as of late, Batista, made their way to the ring. The Chairman informed the newly crowned champion that he must defend his title against The Animal – immediately. Cena appeared incredulous, but knowing Mr. McMahon, perhaps he should have expected just such a despicable twist. Despite a valiant effort, Cena seemed too battered, too spent to mount a worthy defense, and he was forced to relinquish the championship to a victorious Batista.

This final shocking turn capped off an entire match littered with surprises. The biggest shake-up may have been the further dismantling of The Legacy. If ringleader Orton had come to question the loyalty of DiBiase, he needn’t question it any further – it’s long gone. As DiBiase and The Viper battled inside the chamber, Rhodes came to the ring to sneak a lead pipe to his mentor. DiBiase, however, claimed the pipe and bashed Orton with it before pinning him.

In other action, the seemingly unstoppable Sheamus met his match against Triple H. It was The King of Kings who avenged an attack from The Celtic Warrior a week earlier and put an end to his tyrannical rule by eliminating Sheamus from the bout. The Game would eventually face Cena, who forced him to tap out to claim the title, brief as it was.

What will happen in the wake of such unexpected developments remains to be seen, but it’s unlikely that any of the six Superstars involved in the match will give up their quest for the most revered of treasures, the WWE Championship. After all, glory may be fleeting, but obscurity lasts forever.

Heartbroken - New World Heavyweight Champion Chris Jericho

ST. LOUIS - In a shocking upset, Chris Jericho outlasted five elite SmackDown Superstars to become a six-time World Heavyweight Champion at WWE Elimination Chamber. But, his victory wasn’t simply a case of Jericho being “the best in the world at what he does.” Ultimately, his triumph came with some shocking “Heartbreak,” in the form of HBK.

Nonetheless, Jericho overcame tremendous odds to capture the World Championship inside Satan’s Structure, outlasting not only the legendary Undertaker, but also John Morrison, CM Punk, R-Truth and Rey Mysterio.

The career-threatening match proved to be a brutal battle from the moment CM Punk locked horns with R-Truth at the opening bell. The Second City Saint  defeated the rapping Superstar with the GTS before Rey Mysterio could even enter the Chamber at No. 3. The Master of the 619 – who has a tremendous score to settle with Punk for the back-to-back assaults he has endured on SmackDown – returned the favor by pinning Punk with a splash before Jericho could enter at No. 4.

John Morrison entered at No. 5, initiating a fast-paced trifecta of pain that eventually ended with The Guru of Greatness pinning Mysterio with Starship Pain.

The Demon of Death Valley entered last, finishing off The Shaman of Sexy with a chokeslam onto the unforgiving steel.

The Undertaker then turned his attention back to Jericho. But just as he seemed ready to finish off his prey, Shawn Michaels suddenly emerged from under the Chamber and executed an earth-shattering Sweet Chin Music to cost the World Champion his title.

Although Shawn Michaels’ attack on The Phenom came as a surprise to the entire WWE Universe, it is no secret that HBK has been consumed with his attempts to face The Deadman in a WrestleMania rematch for months. Clearly, the frustration of coming up short in his quest time and time again - with devastating losses in the Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber Qualifying Match at Raw – has taken its toil.

Despite the circumstances surrounding Jericho’s triumph, the enormity of his feat can not be denied. By conquering the dreaded, steel terror that is the Elimination Chamber, the highly decorated Superstar did more than back-up his claim that he would capture the illustrious title two days earlier on SmackDown. His monumental triumph has earned him the right to headline WrestleMania, adding to his already amazing list of accolades.

McIntyre gets off scot-free - Still Intercontinental Champion Drew McIntyre

ST. LOUIS — Intercontinental Champion Drew McIntyre will do whatever it takes to win — a fact he proved yet again at WWE Elimination Chamber, stealing a victory over Kane to escape with his coveted championship still in his possession.

Personally signed by Mr. McMahon, McIntyre has been supremely confident since arriving on SmackDown, but even a Superstar as cocky as he is had trepidations about stepping into the ring with The Big Red Monster. Since the two men first crossed paths in a Triple Threat Elimination Chamber Qualifying Match, Kane has had his sights set on McIntyre’s Intercontinental Championship. It seemed as though nothing the arrogant Scotsman did could stop the focused monster on his path of destruction.

Facing off with the former WWE Champion at Elimination Chamber, McIntyre knew he couldn’t match Kane in the strength department. Instead, the crafty Intercontinental Champion targeted the 7-footer’s center of gravity, repeatedly attacking the giant’s knees during the bout. When this strategy failed to stop the destructive Kane, McIntyre opted to cheat, hitting his opponent with a thumb to the eye to set up the Future Shock DDT for the pin.

With this victory, the Intercontinental Champion’s undefeated streak continues. But has McIntyre vanquished his diabolical opponent or only made him angrier? Find out this Friday night on SmackDown.

Undertaker’s Pyro Accident from the Elimination

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMWjYO4rH54&feature=related
          http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kH5lj4W_loA&feature=related (plan view)

- As previously reported, there was talk of having Shawn Michaels take responsibility for the pyrotechnics incident that happened at the Elimination Chamber PPV. The decision was made prior to RAW, and that idea was shot down ultimately.

One of the key things in the decision making was going to be based off how their camera angles had the incident, if it came off impressive, the idea would have been used on TV.

Undertaker had first and second degree burns on his chest and neck. Those within WWE consider him very lucky, having escaped with the burns he had, as opposed to how badly it could have been.

Despite the burns, Undertaker continued to work through the match in tremendous pain, and even refused to shorten the match. The sleeve of his jacket and part of his hand had melted when the pyro went off prematurely.

no wonder i watch the entrance why undertaker walk so fast not like everytime walk so slow....
